Welcome to a warmer than usual Weekend Coffee Share. Let’s sit down by the water. This is one of my favourite views along a trail I walk/run/ride my bike along several times a week. What kind of beverage can I get you? Something cold? There is ice coffee, ice tea, watermelon smoothies, bottled water, and of course some hot coffee as well to choose from.
As I mentioned it’s been warmer than usual this week, pushing 90F most days, and humid almost every day. I don’t think 90F is bad at all, just warm for a Swedish summer. What’s the weather like in your area?

It’s been an active week with a lot of going to the beach, swimming, kayaking, walking, yoga, and bike-riding. I even went out for a run a couple times, but I prefer walking, or riding my bike.

Falun Mine (Swedish: Falu Gruva) was a mine in Falun, Sweden, that operated for a millennium from the 10th century to 1992. It produced as much as two thirds of Europe’s copper needs[1] and helped fund many of Sweden’s wars in the 17th century. Technological developments at the mine had a profound influence on mining globally for two centuries.[2] The mine is now a museum and in 2001 was designated a UNESCO world heritage site.

A couple days we participated in a free summer event that our town arrange for kids 8-15 years old. The event is every day except Sundays, at our local beaches, starting this week, different beaches different days. We have many beaches in, and near our town. The beach events starts with swimming classes, and after that the kids can try different water activities. My daughter was hesitant to go to the event the first day, but when we got there she didn’t want to leave, and we ended up spending more than six hours in the water that day. I think it’s a great initiative from our town to teach water safety, and give all children fun things to do during their summer break.

It has been another wonderful week of vacation, and lovely weather. Everyone is happy and healthy, I cannot ask for much more. How is your week so far? What have you been up to? Tell me in a comment!
Thank you Natalie for hosting the coffee share!
Love,
Maria
Some beautiful photos! It has been a week of beautiful weather in Los Angeles…sadly, we need water desperately, but none will arrive for months at least….long, very warm days and pleasant nights make for a chance to see as much nature as we can find in the area!

Thank you so much John 🙂 Isn’t the weather always beautiful in LA? I do hope you get some rain. I follow the news about the fires in NorCal and OR, that’s very scary.

Yes, the weather is mostly gorgeous year round, but we desperately need water, and the fire situation is always a huge worry…

Sweden in summer must be wonderful. It’s in the high 70°s F here, which is fine by me. I start to wilt when it gets into the 90°s F.
Those water activities for kids sound fun.

It is, actually all seasons are wonderful here 😉 I moved back to Sweden in 2019, and it’s like I am rediscovering all the things I love. Mid 70’s is my favourite summertime temperature. Thanks for the visit!

Lovely photos, Maria. Sounds like a great week. Water is just what you need on a hot day and kids will be happy all day when playing near water (snacks/lunch needed, of course 🙂 ). I grew up near a lake and spent many days each summer swimming there with my friends. Summer is such a fun time of year!
Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much Eliza! The dream would be a place in the countryside with a waterfront of some kind 🙂 I grew up near a river, it was cold but we kids always went swimming as soon as the ice near the edges of the river melted. I will say that we never stayed as long in the water then as we do here further South. Enjoy your weekend ❤

Another wonderful post, Maria, so good to see you back! The lake looks huge, there must be plenty of boats there. Your daughter is so cute in the kayak! Have a great weekend! ☺️

Thank you John, I appreciate it! Lake Varpan is of decent size, not the biggest in the area, but not the smallest either. There are some small boats, but the bigger boats are at the bigger lakes. Since there’s so many lakes its not crowded anywhere. I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

It looks lovely, Maria, and those photos of the mine are beautiful! I’ve never been able to find a good spot to take any good photos there. Now I haven’t been to Falun for many years, I probably should visit again! It’s a very nice town and even if I never really felt at home there, I liked to walk around there.

Maria, that looks like it was and is a great summer for you. We sure do “mine” this earth of ours don’t we? In Australia I have seen mines like that too…for coal.
Keep enjoying those great outdoors!

After my own heart! 🙂 Happy to hear your daughter liked kayaking! I’m going out today later with friends. And how interesting about the copper mine! 10th century?

Enjoy your day out! Being on, or in, the water is wonderful in the summer.
The copper mine has shaped our city, and the red colour on many Swedish houses comes from by products of the copper mine originally. Have a fabulous rest of your weekend!

Sounds like a fun week and a great event your town puts on. We had some really hot weather a few weeks back, but our temps have been back in the 70’s this week and that’s my happy place. lol.

Hi Maria. I recall you posting about the copper mine before but did not catch that it’s now a museum. That’s the kind of place I could really enjoy exploring and trying to “dig out” what it must have been like working such a place. We have a few nearby quarry’s, but they’re pretty small by comparison and those that are left are being developed into neighborhoods and several of my old playgrounds and now some new kid’s yard.
Such is progress I guess.

It is a lot of fun exploring the mining area. You are allowed to visit several of the houses connected to the mining business, and with a guide you can even go down into the mine. They have kept many of the workers lodging in the nearby neighbourhood. Many of then houses have been gently restored and people still live there! I imagine the quality of buildings must have been better than today. One of the churches in town is from the 13th century.
