Weekend Coffee Share

Welcome to the Weekend Coffee Share! Can I offer you some coffee? Or tea? Hot, or cold?

It’s a gorgeous day outside, about 72F. My daughter and I took the long way home after work. We walked along the river that runs through the city, we stopped and looked at beautiful flower arrangements, and enjoyed ice cream at one of our favourite ice cream places. It’s still (late afternoon,) beautiful outside, and I might take another walk later, right now I am enjoying sitting down here with you for a spell. How are you doing? How is your week so far?

Falu River, taking the long way home from work today.

If we had coffee, or tea, I would tell you that the beginning of the week was rough. My daughter had some kind of stomach bug.. no details needed.. Let’s skip to the end of the work-week, the kids in my group are starting to come back after their summer vacation. I am excited about the new group of children I am blessed to spend time with this year. It is always super exciting getting to know a new group of children, and all the unique individuals in the group. Today I ended up answering a lot of questions about dinosaurs! Am I really sure that no dinosaur ever ate a human being? Or? Am I really, really sure? I love how every day is full of surprises when you spend them with 5 year olds.

My balcony garden is doing great. The past month I’ve harvested more than 5kg/11lbs of tomatoes, and there is more to come. I’d say that this gardening season have been rather successful. In the beginning of the summer there was beans and peas. We’ve had some herbs and salad throughout most of the summer. I am happy with the result, even though I can think of some changes I will consider next season.

What’s you plans for the weekend? Thank you so much for the lovely company, and an extra thanks to Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share! Have a fabulous weekend!

Love,

Maria

    1. That sounds like a wonderful weekend. So far my kids and I have eaten all the tomatoes daily. LOL. I hope there will be some left for canning and making pizza sauce before the season is over. Sounds like you have a nice weekend ahead of you ❤

  2. Stomach bugs, ugh! Hope she has recovered.
Your walk to work is beautiful… I love cities that have water as a prominent feature. Balances the energy of humans! 🙂
It has been a hot and humid week with three heat index warnings, which means I stay inside, very hard to do in summer! I get out in the morning and evening and do inside things the rest of the time. Supposed to break tomorrow with thunderstorms. It has been a very hot summer overall.
Sounds like your weather is just about perfect, lucky you! Have you seen the Perseids or is there too much light where you are? I’ve tried, but it is too hazy with this weather.
Your garden seems to be a rousing success – those tomatoes look beautiful.
    Have a great weekend! ❤

    1. She is recovered now, it was at its worst the night between Sunday/Monday, then gradually got better.
I usually walk my daughter to a bus stop in the mornings, and then I ride my bike the rest of the way to work, on the way home the opposite, firs bike ride, and then walk. Most often we take the shortest way home, but yesterday it was so beautiful, and still early in the afternoon that we decided to take a detour. The part that we walk is through the city, the part I ride my bike is out of the city. Yesterday morning a lynx was seen close to my work (catching someones cat.) Lynxes are not very common at all, I’ve only seen one once in my life (in a different part of Sweden.) Our city is not a big one, the surrounding forests are much bigger. I do appreciate the area more as I spend more time here.
I am afraid I have not seen any meteor showers. I don’t know if we can see them here? I have not heard any talk of it either. Maybe too much light, like you suggested.
I hope your temperatures becomes more comfortable, and that you get to enjoy your paradise. Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. I’m sorry to hear about your daughter, I had a stomach bug about a month ago and I’m just recently back to normal… the happy life with IBD, haha… I hope your daughter recovered quicker!
So you’re a kindergarten teacher, or similar? The comments from 5-year-olds can be so hilarious! And wise, at the same time, such good questions.
I love your photo from Falun, brings some nostalgia! My sister was there recently, when she visited my parents they took a road trip to Falun one day. I really would like to go back there someday!

    1. Thank you, she is fully recovered now.
I am a kindergarten teacher, and I love it. It’s awesome to spend time with those bright little minds every day. It’s often very challenging, and it helps me live in the moment.
If your parents live in the area you definitely have to visit one day. I’d love to have a fika with you at one of the cafe’s. Happy to share the photos for now 🙂 Have a great weekend!

That is one of the things I love the most about my work, that and experiencing when they discover new truths in their world. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you so much! The plan is to make pizza sauce and do some canning. We use a lot of canned tomatoes with herbs all year round as base in our soups and stews.
Back to school is always a great time 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Thank you so much Gary! I always feel guilty when I read books about dinosaurs, I am sure that I don’t pronounce their names correctly, they all have such complicated names. The kids don’t seem to mind though.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend. I’m going to take some walks, enjoy the weather, clean the house, bake, and read a little. Yesterday there was a lynx finding its way in to a neighbourhood close to work, everyone is talking about that. There are lynx, wolves, and bear in the forests, but you don’t see them very often. Especially the lynxes are almsot invisible, even though we know they are there.

  6. Glad your daughter recovered. I am a retired K-2 teacher…long retired but I loved being part of little people’s introduction to learning and more. I was able to enjoy that aspect of grandparenting too…and then they all grew up! Denyse #weekendcoffeeshare

    1. Thank you! I do remember you mentioning that you are a retired K-2 teacher, very special years indeed. I am always surprised when I meet some of my first students now, years later as young adults. I can imagine having your children and grandchildren grow up must be an even more intense experience. Enjoy your weekend 🙂

  7. Our Grandson is 6 and dinosaurs are a big thing in his life at the moment. My daughter had to take him with her to work one day last week and he brought several of his smaller dinos and put them up on the window ledge in the board room where my daughter had a meeting. He then got down on the floor and drew pictures . He does drawings of cartoon characters. He did one for each person in the meeting and then handed them out to each of them. And then he introduced the people to his dinosaurs! What a great little fellow. No wonder you like working with these youngsters.

    1. It seems like dinosaurs have a major impact on almost all children life at some point, very interesting if you think more about that 🙂 I hope you get to spend a lotto time with your grandson during these special years. Thank you for having coffee with me this weekend!

  8. Thank you so much for the coffee and I’m so happy your daughter has recovered from the nasty flu bug. I Love seeing the world through a child’s eyes and to have a room full of those inquisitive children even better!! I’m sure challenging sometimes but I love your stories or questions you share with us, makes me giggle and smile!!

Interesting you saw the lynx, wildlife up close or in plain sight is definitely a subject to be talked about!! I know our local news will always feature the black bears that come out of the mountains here and into neighboring swimming pools…. It’s usually up in LA County, not near where I live! We do have mountain lions and bobcats, closer and wild boars in the riverbeds.

Love your photos, and all your tomatoes!! Yummy to the tummy!! Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead! ❤️🤩

    1. Thank you for your kindness! It was about 15 years ago since I saw a lynx, they really are invisible. I saw two mountain lions and a few bobcats in CA, (and many black bears.)
We enjoyed homemade tomato salsa with our taco pie that we had for dinner, it was probably the best salsa I ever had (if I may say so. Pure luck I’m sure.)
Have a wonderful, wonderful week! I love seeing your photos of Murphy. He seem like quiet the personality 🙂

    1. They will produce. Hang in there! Your vacation looked very relaxing. I remember the first time “we met” I was living in an RV, and saw pictures of your RV at your property.

  9. Oh, the questions of little ones… love them! The one thing I lost due to pandemic was my part time position at church working with the little ones. I miss their fount of indomitable joy. As it’s looking like another school year with restrictions, many families are just homeschooling… so, I’m hoping to be called to teach homeschool again this year.
