Weekend Coffee Share

A thermos with coffee and the Swedish pastry “dammsugare”.

Can I get you some coffee, or maybe some tea? Let’s sit down by the lake. I brought a traditional Swedish pastry dammsugare, if you’d like to give it a try? Dammsugare means vacuum cleaner. In the old days the baker made these pastries by the end of the week, he basically took all his leftover, poured some alcohol on it, mixed it, added some chocolate, and used the mix inside these pastries. The outside is marzipan, and the ends are dipped in chocolate. I am sure there’s no old leftovers in these ones 🙂 You should give it a try!

The weather is absolutely lovely, around 65 and sunny today. My daughter and I took a walk to the closest little lake today, we just got back a few minutes ago. The photo of the thermos and the pastry is only one hour old as I am writing this. The week have been a mix of rain, wind and sunshine. It’s definitely fall. What’s the weather like in your area?

So far it’s been a wonderful week. Everyone is healthy. Things are going great at work. My kids are doing great. I’ve been working on an assignment for the class I’m taking. It’s due on Monday. I’m pretty much finished, just going to proof read it a few more times. How are you doing? Are you having a good week?

I’m going to do some things around the house today, listen to music, and help my daughter with her homework. Tomorrow I’m going to meet a very special friend of mine that I haven’t seen in almost ten years, I’m really looking forward to that. Have a refill on your beverage and tell me about your weekend plans! Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share! Have a fabulous weekend!

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. I now reside in the region where I was born: Dalarna, Sweden. I am a mom, a kindergarten teacher, a minimalist and a gardener. Love, Maria

  1. Hi Maria, the pastry looks delicious, yes, please! The tree has beautiful, brilliant colors. Your weather does sound very comfortable, nothing like here, the forecast for Vegas today is sunshine and 95F. The 100s are gone now as we begin the seasonal cooldown. I’m glad that you and your family are all well, so wonderful! I haven’t seen you on Instagram in a while, hope to see you there too. Have a lovely weekend my friend! ❤️🇸🇪

    1. One dammsugare is coming right up John! It’s been a busy week, I’ve been working full time, and spent at least 20hours on my school work (probably more,) I did post one photo memory on Instagram today. Instagram is fun 🙂 I should be more active there. I hope you are enjoying a great weekend John!

  3. Glad everyone is back to good health, and you are getting some nice fall weather. The temps here are beginning to cool, but it is still warmer that it ‘normally’ has been at this time of year. I’ve been moving some plants around, reworking beds, repotting houseplants to bring inside. Keeping busy!

      1. It’s mostly been in the 70s and a couple days last week were in the low 80s, very unusual. We’re averaging about 10º above normal. The garden is starting to wane, but still is producing good blooms. I’m happy about that. 🙂

        1. The temperatures being so much higher than usual is scary. It is wonderful that your garden is blooming still. All the trees are on fire with lovely yellow and red here. Have a great week!

  4. Haha, what you say about vacuum cleaner pastries is about the same as the theory I had about them! Once I was in Gamla stan in a coffee shop and a Spanish tourist asked the girl behind the counter what they were called. The girl wasn’t Swedish either and didn’t know, so I chimed in and said “hey are called vacuum cleaners!” That was so funny 😂. I’m glad to hear you are all doing well. The week has been good hear but staying up at night for my new music class does take a toll on my energy levels and sleep for the rest of the week. I’m too old to fiddle with my sleep patterns, but it’s totally worth it.

    1. Your vacuum cleaner story is a great one. How odd that the girl behind the counter didn’t know what she was selling!

I don’t know why it is so difficult to change our sleep patterns now, it’s the same for me. It doesn’t matter when I go to bed, I always wake up at 5am..How is the music class?

      1. The music class is fantastic! It’s about the history and development of bluegrass singing, and we learn about important musicians and how their style developed, as well as some classic songs. This week we’re learning Bill Monroe songs, quite challenging. Which reminds me I have to start trying Mule skinner blues 😵, and practising two other songs.

  5. I am thinking pancakes for our Sunday lunch today, usually drown them in golden syrup. Then I see your pastry & oh I want that instead. lol. Your little outing looked & read like such a wonderful time. I am so glad things are going so well for you. Much needed rain is forecast for us today we are praying more rain as things are dangerously dry again coming into our hotter weather. Your blog reads like a refreshing fun relief. Beautiful photos. Have a awesome catch up time with your friend.

    1. Awe thank you! We are enjoying a really beautiful fall, and it has been a wonderful weekend, after an intense week. It was great seeing my childhood friend after so many years. Some people are just special, and it doesn’t matter how many years passed by since the last time you saw them, it is like if it was yesterday, and you just pick up where you left.
I hope you get some rain! ❤

  6. What a sweet post and that pastry looks delicious Maria! I also adore that photo of the tree, in all its autumnal beauty. We are enjoying spring downunder and the garden is just starting to wake up, but the days are being temperamental with their indecisiveness, whether to be warm or stay coolish! #weekendcoffeeshare

  7. Marizpan and Chocolate…..defo count me in! There is a little bakery in Brugge, that creates a 2nd bake item by using all the end of days items (like croissants, pain au chocolate and pain au raisin) Squashing them all down into one probably a custard and a re-bake. Can’t remember the name of it. But it was awesome. Thanks for the coffee and for taking me back to that little corner of the world.

  8. Hi Maria. I think we too are done with hotter days (which of course will cause Murphy to send us a few more) but the tide has changed and hopefully some rain will follow.

My news for the week is the creation of a new story that is another stretch for me. It’s a 10 minute read that pivots on a current event – covid; and I try to blend fiction and fact, emotion and light science that I hope both inspires and teaches something I did not know until I did some research. I thought it might prove controversial on one point but so far, no one has challenged it.

I’m hoping that somewhere along the line, I can get about 10 minutes of your time to check it out and let me know how it sits with you. Your opinion is one that I always especially value.

To remove one possible excuse, here’s the link in case you’re willing to have a go at it right away.

It was so good to read that things are going good with your kids and that your work seems back to normal, busy, but normal.

Now, tell me, how many of those ‘dammsugare pastries’ do you have in that bag?

  10. We don’t really have an Autumn season – in that the trees don’t change colour, so it makes it extra special to see some shots of the trees with their Autumn coat. We are getting ready for summer in Australia.
