Weekend Coffee Share – You are lucky it is a virtual coffee chat!

Welcome to the weekend coffee share. Can I get you a cup of coffee? Or tea? This week I also have some blueberry soup to offer. I felt like having some myself today. It’s cold outside, around 15F. I know it’s probably going to be a lot colder soon, but in the beginning of the season the cold always feels colder, if you know what I mean. Blueberry soup is perfect for cold days, lots of vitamin C and energy. Hot drinks and hot soup is something I consume a lot of during the winter. So far today I’ve had hot coffee, hot tea and hot blueberry soup, not to forget the bean soup I had for lunch.. LOL. The days are shorter, colder, and darker now. The sunrises and sunsets have been very colourful all week. What’s the weather like in your area?

Blueberry soup and cheese sandwiches, made out of homemade bread and locally produced cheese.

On Monday morning I took a long bike ride before work. The world was frozen, but not much snow. During the day it snowed, and the ground had a fine white cover all around in time for my ride home. Next week we are expecting more cold and beautiful weather 10-17F most of the week. I hope we get more snow.

More than half of my daughter’s school have been down with the winter vomiting disease, teachers and students alike. Good thing this coffee chat is virtual. My daughter became ill on Wednesday morning, at school. I had to leave work quickly and get her (it was really bad timing to not be at work this week..) She was very ill. I’ve lost count on how many times she vomited. She also had a high fever. She started to get better mid day Thursday, after about 30hours of misery. She’s been weak today as well, but no vomiting, or fever. She is still contagious (until Sunday,) but so far neither her brother, nor I have fallen ill, we’ve taken all the precautions we can to stay healthy.

Due to this unforeseen illness my plans of a big Thanksgiving celebration for my daughter had to be cancelled. Thanksgiving is very important to her. She usually celebrates with her dad and his side of the family. We are going to make a turkey and pumpkin pie for Christmas instead. If you are celebrating Thanksgiving this week: Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful time with your family.

Frost on my kitchen window early this morning.

Given that things are progressing in the right way the rest of this weekend (my son and I stays healthy,) I am planning on decorating for Christmas on Sunday. I’m looking forward to that. I can’t believe that it will be December in just a few days. When do you usually decorate for Christmas?

Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Love,

Maria

  1. Wow, I hope your daughter is well very soon, Maria! That’s awful. It’s so cold there, too cold for me! 61F and partly cloudy today, the low 70s are coming soon, yay! Stay warm, Maria! ❤️

  2. Oh man! Maria, I feel so bad for your gal.
When she was much younger, my daughter had some kind of horrible lung congestion and the short story is that I missed lots of work to sit in the bathtub with her making as much steamy air as we could to help break up the crud that was making her so miserable. Her quiet coughing and gasping were heartbreaking. These events are torture for both our children and us. I hope that this note finds her fully recovered.

  3. So sorry to hear about your daughter, especially in this time when the pandemic has stretched all medical services so thin…I hope everyone recovers quickly…..hard to celebrate when anyone is not feeling well!

  4. I hope your treasure feels better & better with each day. All your soups sound so delicious I can’t wait till we have enough blueberries to try it. Do you have special tires on your bike for icy conditions? We’ve had rain rain & more rain which is great for the land but some parts up river are flooding not too serious though. It used to flood every year around this time. For us with the heat if it’s a real tree we put it up about 2 weeks before Christmas but we have some sweet Christmas Ornaments that I place around the house starting on the 1st of Dec. It is such a fun time. Have a healthy weekend ahead my friend.

    1. Thank you so much! I do have great tires made for difficult conditions on my bike.
I can’t imagine how it would be to celebrate Christmas in the middle of the summer. It was very strange to me celebrating in California. I remember my first Christmas there going horseback riding on Christmas Eve wearing a t-shirt. It felt so odd! I hope you get a season with the right amount of rain that your land needs, without the flooding. Have a great weekend ❤

  5. Poor H, I hope she is feeling better than she was. I remember getting the ‘grippe’ often as a kid… not fun at all. Hope you and your son escape the bug.
It has become colder here as well with a couple nights in the low 20s, but not in the teens yet, thankfully. We managed to escape the usual November weather up until now. But it looks like gray, rain/mixed weather is with us for the next few days. So dreary.
We had our booster vaccines on Wed. so felt lousy yesterday, but better today thankfully. I can’t imagine how awful it’d be to have full-blown C-19. Terrible! I’m glad we decided to have our turkey dinner on Sunday ahead of our vaccines and have been enjoying the leftovers all week. I made a big pot of soup for our supper. My favorite!
I’ll be making our outside decorations with a friend tomorrow. I’ll probably make a swag or two, and fill a window box, but she wants to learn how to make a wreath, so it’ll be a fun time.
    Take care, be well!

    1. That sounds like you choose wisely to make the turkey dinner before the vaccine boost. I’ll probably make mine the Sunday before Christmas. My son is going to celebrate at his dads house. I’m thinking that we will have a nice dinner before he leaves, but wait with the presents until he returns. I can’t believe we are approaching Christmas!
Best of luck with your decorations, sounds like fun!

  6. I hope your daughter is feeling much better, and you and your son stay healthy. What a nasty bug. The weather where I live has been unusually nice for November. However, we’re expecting snow on Sunday. I like the first fresh snow. Have fun with your Christmas decorating Maria! Thank you for your #weekendcoffeeshare.

    1. Yes, we used to say that when we were kids! 🙂
One easy recipe for blueberry soup is to fill a pot 3/4 full with blueberries, (barely) cover them with cold water. Heat up to the first bubble, and let simmer at a very low heat for 5 min. Add honey, or sugar to your liking. simmer for 5 more minutes. Add some starch (about 2tbs/7cups of water,) I use corn starch since I am allergic to potato starch, but most people use potato starch. Simmer until the soup is a little thicker (less than 5min.) Add more water if needed. Enjoy!

  7. Hi Maria, I’m so sorry your daughter caught that nasty bug, but it sounds like she’s past the worse of it. And praying you and your son don’t catch it which I’m sure will be the case! Lots of soups and hot beverages sounds wonderful with cold weather. I love holding that nice warm mug in both hands as I sip away!! Yum! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, lots of leftovers as there was just 4 of us. My daughter came home and my youngest lives with us so we were just missing my family in Arizona. I always make too much food, but I freeze some and we will be eating the rest through out this next week!!
We usually put up Christmas decorations this weekend or at the latest next weekend. I Love this season, sending warm hugs your way! ❤️🤗💞🥰❤️

    1. I imagine a very warm and cozy home filled with love, laughter and amazing food! I love cooking a lot of food when I make an extra effort, to be able to enjoy the leftovers. Leftovers are underrated! Enjoy the decorating! ❤

    1. I used to have mixed emotions about riding in the wintertime, but the tires I have now makes me confident. They are great! The name of the tires are “Ground control” and the name is a perfect match 🙂 Thank you for the coffee chat. I hope you are enjoying a great weekend!
