A slippery morning walk

Falun

Last week was a little warmer compared to the two previous weeks, now it’s getting colder again (normal winter temperatures,) and the roads and walkways are insanely slippery. My Christmas break have already started, but my kids have two days of school left. This morning after walking my daughter to her bus I decided to take a long walk. Well that was easier said than done, the walk was a lot shorter than my walks usually are, but it took me two hours to get home safely. I tried walking on several different trails in the forest, sidewalks, and walking paths in the city, all of them were super slippery.

However, it was a very beautiful morning.

It’s been a lot of ice for the past week, and I have not been able to ride my bike at all. I am, actually thinking of joining the nearest gym, to get some exercise. Well, I have been thinking about it for a while, but now I have three long weeks, lots of good food at home… I am going to need some exercise. We’ll see. Our Christmas dinner last night was very nice. All the dishes turned out great, the kids had lots of fun, and there was big smiles all around. I am definitely starting to feel like Christmas ❀

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. I now reside in the region where I was born: Dalarna, Sweden. I am a mom, a kindergarten teacher, a minimalist and a gardener. Love, Maria

    1. Thank you Eliza! Yes, they do have different types of boots for Icey surfaces. So far I have been very happy with mine, but today was the worst I’ve ever experienced.

  1. Beautiful photos of your hometown, Maria! So cold and so beautiful. I’m glad that your dinner was a success last night. Be well, don’t slip and fall! β€οΈπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ

    1. Thank you so much! We got some new snow that froze on top of the ice, it wasn’t slippery at all today. I saw a photo of your new e-bike on Instagram. I am so happy for you! What a great way to get around πŸ™‚

  2. I Love that second photo of the sunrise and pink river, Maria! I’m not a fan of ice either and we expect COLD temps here all week. Last year I bought expensive Sorel snowboots (excellent investment–good traction and warmth). I try to walk in the snow when I walk, but I slipped in my own driveway last week and banged my knee! Take good care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday break!

    1. Thank you so much Terri! I also purchased a pair of Sorel’s last year, they are great. When I walk far I have a lighter pair with a special ice-sole underneath. I went on a long walk this morning 12,5 miles and it wasn’t slippery at all today. It sure is much nicer when you don’t have to look down and pay attention to the ground all the time. I hope your knee is OK. ❀

  3. Whew – the slippery walk sounds treacherous – but you did get some awesome photos
πŸ˜‰ and it is a good thing you are fit enough to walk in the cold and then take the long way home.

And best wishes on making the decision about whether or not to join a gym…

  4. So glad you made it home in one piece I could only imagine what it feels like to fall on icy hard ground, can’t imagine there would be any bounce. I just love the stunning photos you share of your beautiful homeland.

  5. Hi Maria, I lived in our local mountains 20 years ago for about a year and we had one of the coldest, snowiest winters the year we decided to move there. The black ice was horrible, and there was lots of it as the snow would melt then refreeze the next night. Our cars would just slide past the stop sign or the road we wanted to turn on etc… I can appreciate what you went thru trying to find that path to get home I’m so happy you made it home safely! Your photos are so beautiful, and I know you are enjoying your holiday break! Take care my friend! πŸ’ž

    1. Then you know exactly how it is! I am enjoying the Christmas break immensely. Yesterday I found out that I got into the school I applied to for my Degree of Master of Science, Main Field of Study: Educational Work. I danced the happy dance all day πŸ™‚
