The shortest day of the year

Today is the shortest day of the year. I celebrated the day, and the light that is about to come with a long winter walk/hike.

I started out in town, and as I discovered that it wasn’t slippery at all today (yesterday was awful,) I decided to venture further away.

I am so grateful to call Dalarna (Sweden) my home. The nature never gets boring. There are so many lakes, many deep forests, rivers, and mountains. We also have four season, something I appreciate more the older I get. The change, the excitement of the change, and the way nature looks and feels different, the way the air change, the wind on my cheek that is warm for several months in the summer, but cold during the winter months, the snow, the green grass, the colourful leaves – the change of the seasons is a beautiful experience.

A frozen Lake Varpan, the lake I usually ride my bike around, but I walked today.
Reflections in the water.

Today, the shortest day of the year, I feel gratitude.

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat; mind, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. I now reside in the region where I was born Dalarna, Sweden. I am a mom, a minimalist and a gardener. I'm also a kindergarten teacher with a dream of improving practices of teaching sustainability in kindergarten. To be able to engage in educational research I am working on my Degree of Master of Science, Main Field of Study: Educational Work. Love, Maria

    1. Beautiful walk Maria!
I have finally finished all my holiday cookie baking along with all my other Christmas preparations. So walking sounds like the next best thing to do!
Merry Christmas and Happy First day of Winter!

      1. Thank you so much Nancy! There have been a fair amount of baking here as well. We assembled one last gingerbread house last night, that we are going to decorate. I might bake some more Christmas bread, but besides that I’m finished with all the preparations as well. It is going to be an enjoyable, stress free Christmas. I like the idea of making the holidays be about more about making memories together, and not so much the material things. Have a very Merry Christmas Nancy!

    1. Thank you John! It is! At the moment I live in town, but I see myself, either moving to the outskirts of town, or getting a summerhouse in the countryside soon, to be able to enjoy it even more. I hope you are enjoying a great week in sunny California.
