Weekend Coffee Share – An open weekend

Welcome to the Weekend Coffee Share, can I get you a cup of coffee? Or tea? How are you?

This week I managed to get my coffee share up early on in the weekend, it’s only Saturday morning in Sweden. I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend at home with my daughter. Monday to Friday are usually so buys from early morning to bedtime, that I find myself enjoying a relaxing weekend with an open schedule immensely.

Yesterday I got up at 3am to finish writing a school report before work.

It’s not like I don’t do anything in the weekends, I always do, it’s the luck of have to’s that I find wonderful. A normal weekend usually involves quality time with my daughter, reading, blogging, nature walks, bike rides, visits to the gym, tinkering around the hose, cooking, and baking. It always ends with a nice family dinner with both of my kids on Sunday. That is an important part of our family tradition.

I’ve enjoyed many beautiful sunrises, and sunsets this weekend. This is the sunset on Monday, seen from my balcony.

At work I’ve been snowboarding, skiing, taking the kids to the library, and read surely at least 100 children’s books this week. It’s been a very good week there. Speaking of work, I decided on a whim to bake cinnamon rolls for my colleagues on Tuesday afternoon, bringing them to work on Wednesday morning. That was fun, and appreciated.

Cinnamon rolls for my fabulous colleagues.

I’ve been riding my bike for many miles this week, through rain, sun, hail, snow, mud, and everything in between.

Riding my bike to work. We’ve had cold, beautiful mornings all week.

I challenge myself to get a real workout out of riding to work, riding different ways almost daily, seeing which way I like the best. Some days I want to take the shortest way home about 3.7 US miles, other days I go for a much longer ride. The exercise usually makes me sleep very well at night. I also notice much higher overall energy levels. I feel great, and I am very grateful for this week.

Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share. I hope you are enjoying a fabulous weekend! I’ve promised to make scones for breakfast, I better get going with that. Afterwards I’m thinking about taking a walk in a nearby nature preserve area. What is going on in your corner of the world? Have a refill on your coffee and tell me about it! Feel free to stay and have some scones if you like 🙂

Love,

Maria

  1. Sounds like a wonderful week indeed! Your bike riding sounds amazing! Kudos to you for doing it in all weather! We live in a tiny village about an hour away from my home town /city and I love it but I do miss being within walking/biking distance to work and errands. I hope you have a lovely, relaxing weekend, just full enough and also very relaxing. Enjoy every minute!

    1. Thank you so much! I have lived in the countryside most of my life, that is what I like the best, but now as a single mom with two children in school it is more practical to live in the city. The upside is being close enough to ride my bike everywhere. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend!

  4. Hi Maria, your week(s) look wonderful and while I love the idea of riding to work, I’ve only been able to do it a few times, even when I was on a bike often, the trip from home to work was often only viable via a freeway or my job was mobile so I was always driving as part of my job. Oh well. These days I walk a lot and have restored and improved on my stamina lost to covid.
I still enjoy your photos from Sweden. For me, it looks exotic.

    1. Thank you Gary! It is a wonderful thing that you’ve been able to walk a lot and feel restored after your terrible experience with Covid. I went on a hike all by myself yesterday, it was wonderful. I hope your weekend is a great one! I’ll come by for coffee in a little bit.

  5. Glad you’re having a relaxing weekend after working so hard on your course work and job. Time to recharge the battery! Your rolls look yummy and the sunrise/set photos are so beautiful. I can imagine how peaceful it is to take in such beauty.
It is still pretty cold here, not getting much warmer than mid-40s and quite windy, making it feel colder. I worked in the garden today, cutting back the raspberry canes and clearing the last year’s annual plants off the garden. The voles have been pretty destructive this year and I may have lost a few plants. I can’t believe that they ate a couple fern crowns and hellebores, which I thought were toxic. Guess not!

    1. Thank you! I hope your time in the garden was rewarding, despite the setbacks. The nights are still very cold here as well, around 10F, the days are in the high 30’s to low 40’s. We went out for a picnic today miss H and I, and it was so windy and cold! Fun anyways of course 🙂 Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

  8. That sunset! I’ve had a week off for spring break and have enjoyed spending it unscheduled in just the kinds of ways you describe. What a wonderful treat you made for your colleagues–I’m sure they were very grateful.

  9. Sounds like a great week. I don’t cycle much any more, but I do walk quite a bit every day and try to run at least three times a week (this week they were about 4 mile runs). Sounds like a fun work week with skiing, reading, etc. The cinnamon rolls look great! Are you finished with your studies until next term? You do seem to do on weekends what weekends were created for 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. It is a great week! Running is good exercise. I sometimes run on a treadmill at the gym, but in the forest I’d rather walk. I went on a solo hike in a nature preserve yesterday, and that was amazing.
I just started a new class at school this week. Every semester have two different classes, so it’s a little less than half of the semester left. Have a fabulous rest of your weekend, and new week to come.
