Weekend Coffee Share – Circular Economy

Welcome to the Weekend coffee share! Can I get you a cup of coffee? Or tea? This week I’ll happily invite you to sit at my balcony and enjoy a cup together. Thank you everyone for the uplifting comments when I was feeling under the weather for a couple of weeks. I feel so much better now. How are you?

I’ve been taking things a little easier than usual, not back to full capacity yet, but I’ve been able to enjoy some lovely nature walks every day after work. Nature is still sparkling with golden yellow tones everywhere.

Since we are sitting at the balcony with warm beverages in our hands, it’s slightly chilly outside, I would point out to my little balcony garden. Don’t you think its grown a little since last week? It’s the celery that impresses me the most, it still keeps coming back. I eat all the celery there is thinking that this is the last fresh celery for the season…and it keeps coming back! I’m most grateful. I really like having celery in my salads.

I eat at least one big salad a day, usually with lots of avocado, celery, spinach, perhaps some feta cheese or cottage cheese (sometimes both,) and some type of beans for protein. I’m going to have some more coffee. Do you need a refill?

What are you up to this weekend? I’ve been writing on a school report, cleaned the house a little extra (I’ll tell you the reason next week,) and organised my family’s closets. I use an app where I sell all the things and clothes we don’t use. I try to go through our things on a regular basis so that we only have what we actually use, that way it doesn’t get cluttered, and someone else can put the things we don’t use on a regular basis to use. The app let you order a special bag where you pack all your things. When you done packing you choose a date for pickup, they come and get the bag, they advertise your stuff, sell it (they take a percentage, how much is depending on the value of the item,) after selling an item you can choose to get the money deposited to your bank account, or get credits in the app (where you can purchase other peoples unused clothes and items.) The app is an effort towards a circular economy.

A circular economy (also referred to as circularity and CE)is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. CE aims to tackle global challenges as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution by emphasising the design-based implementation of the three base principles of the model. The three principles required for the transformation to a circular economy are: eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials, and the regeneration of nature. CE is defined in contradistinction to the traditional linear economy. The idea and concepts of circular economy (CE) have been studied extensively in academia, business, and government over the past ten years. CE has been gaining popularity since it helps to minimize emissions and consumption of raw materials, open up new market prospects and principally, increase the sustainability of consumption and improve resource efficiency.

I’ve used the sellpy app for a long time now, and I am very happy with how it works. My daughter (10 years old) also uses the app (with my help) to renew her closet with seasonal items. Among other things she purchased a winter jacket that would have cost her mama $200 in the store for $20 worth of credits in the app. (She got the credits from selling unused toys and clothes that no longer fits her.) I am a big believer in the concept of circular economy as one step towards a sustainable lifestyle.

Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share. How is your week?

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. I now reside in the region where I was born: Dalarna, Sweden. I am a mom, a kindergarten teacher, a minimalist and a gardener. Love, Maria

  1. Hi Maria, Glad you are feeling better. I love this post about the CE, and I really need to do much better in the clothing department. I like that your daughter is already learning how to use the app (which I am going to check out). Most of us have WAY too much stuff. Your Autumn pics are quite gorgeous!

    1. Hi Terri, thank you so much 🙂 I bet your fall colours are at their prime right now as well? I like when the days get a little shorter and colder, somehow you know that you’re alive when it’s colder outside. I hope you are well. ❤

  2. Hi Maria!
Thank you for the coffee as we chat. I’m so happy you are much better this week, YAY!! The fall colors there are gorgeous and how wonderful your balcony garden is flourishing, especially the celery!!

I’ve been so incredibly busy every weekend this month as I’m up visiting my daughter helping her unpack after she moved last weekend. We won’t unpack everything but at least she’ll have a functioning kitchen! And her IKEA bed will be put back together!! I’ll tell her about the CE app, she uses lots of apps and maybe already donates with them but it can’t hurt to share. My hubby and I donate locally and buy from the Goodwill as well when needed. So WONDERFUL your daughter uses the app too with your help.

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend and have a wonderful week ahead. If I don’t get home too late maybe I can put together a post tonight! Take care my friend! ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Thank you so much Diana! It does sound like you are a very busy lady. I think it’s nice that you are able to help your daughter. I hope I will be able to do the same for mine when it’s time (hopefully many years from now.) If you do write a coffee share I will try to read it in the morning,. It’s almost bedtime here, and Mondays have an early 4am start in my house. Thank you for your most kind comment. I hope you enjoy your time with your daughter. Have a fabulous week ahead!

      1. Oh I didn’t get home early enough to share a post darn it, so I thought I’d send a quick response here and say my weekend with my daughter was amazing and I got some exercise moving boxes up and down stairs to unpack, but we almost finished the kitchen. She definitely needs to donate stuff which I know she’ll do as she finishes unpacking thru the next few weeks. I hope you have a wonderful week! 🤩💖

  3. I like the photos, particularly the leaves on the reflections. Glad you are feeling better! I am super interested in a circular economy. I have been thinking about, and wrote a long (unposted) piece on so called “progress”, and think CE is the solution to that outdated idea.
Anyway, I hope you had a good weekend and have a wonderful week!

    1. Thank you Trent!
I would love to read that unposted post you wrote! I believe if more people looked into CE we would eventually see more high quality items. I’m all for quality over quantity when I need to add something to my home or clothing department, but it definitely don’t have to be new. It’s mostly those higher quality items that end up in second hand shops eventually, they are the ones that have enough life left to be loved a second( or third time) around. I like this app because they sort the things out very thoroughly and describe them items depth. I’m sure there’s something similar in your area as well, if not perhaps you’ll have to develop something? 🙂 Have a fabulous week!

    1. Thank you so much John! I hope you stayed safe this weekend. My weather app keep sending me updates about the dangerous levels of air pollution in Las Vegas (I should change the settings, it makes me uncomfortable every time I see it.) Is it very windy? I wish you a wonderful week with many amazing photo opportunities.

      1. Thank you, Maria, I am fine and the blue sky and sunshine are back. i DON’T KOW HOW DANGEROUS OUR AIR IS HERE BUT IT HAS NEVER BOTHERED ME AT ALL IN NINE YEARS. Sorry about the caps, oops. It was very windy with gusts to 60mph, and my house was making cracking sounds too. No need for you to feel uncomfortable about the weather here. ❤️ Have a great week!

  5. Hi Maria, I’m glad you’re back feeling well, and I enjoyed reading about that clothing app. I usually donate clothing items I don’t use to a local charity shop, but I’m also becoming a lot more careful about what I buy, and that they are items I really love and will use.
The autumn colours over there look absolutely fantastic, and from what I remember, October in Dalarna is stunning… it wasn’t even close to it where I lived in the south, even if we had good colours there too.
My week has been busy and quite frustrating but it ended nicely and I’ve had a nice relaxing weekend. Hope your week ahead will treat you well.

    1. Thank you so much for your kindness!
You are so wise being careful about what you buy. Of course we shouldn’t feel guilty in any way for getting the things we need.
I’m happy to hear that your weekend was relaxing and that you once again are able to go out for walks. That must be heavenly. Hope this new week is fabulous!

  6. Glad you are feeling better, Maria. I love your fall photos, esp. the golden tree in the puddle! That CI app sounds great and such a good way to keep things in use longer than they would otherwise. And I love that your daughter is growing up with it, a boon and a lesson all in one.
The leaves here are dropping fast and the last trees, oaks, beech and poplar are turning now. I’m bracing myself for the gray days of November! Have a wonderful week ahead. 🧡

    1. Thank you so much!
The “golden tree” is one of many at the Kindergarten school I work at. We have the most wonderful school yard with a forest in it. There’s birch trees and pine trees.
Stay positive as we are approaching November. The light will be back soon ❤

  7. Howdy friend, so glad you are feeling better. Your area looks so pretty with the bright golden leaves, love the icey reflection photo. The patio garden is awesome there really is nothing like a big bowl of fresh salad mostly harvested from the garden. Have a fully recovered feeling of a week ahead.

  9. Hi Maria, Thank you for your weekend coffee share and lovely pictures. I’m glad you’re feeling better. You’re doing a great job growing your own produce and participating in the CE. I’ve been participating in the CE movement in Toronto, too. Have a great week ahead.

  10. I’ve been doing no-buys through my neighborhood Facebook group. When I was about to go into a new job that required a more formal dress code, I reached out to the no-buy group and people responded. I REALLY did not want to spend A LOT of money on a completey new wardrobe. I also enjoy using it to gift things to my neighbors such as skeins of yarn. I wanted to make sure it went to a neighbor who would use it rather than dropping it off at a donation bin.

  11. Glad you’re all feeling better! Things are yellow in my world too, right now, my silver maples are almost bare of their yellow leaves and lots of other trees in the neighborhood. I too will look up CE, thank you for sharing the concept!

    1. Yews, I think so. There are other initiatives where you only donate, but I do believe in this, for many reasons. One of them being the high quality of the items. They have knowledgable staff that gets paid to only accept the good stuff.
