Weekend Coffee Share

How about coffee in my sunroom?

If we were having coffee, I would suggest sitting outside. The whole weekend have offered lovely, sunny weather. What can I get you today? Some coffee? Or tea?

The sandwiches in the photo at the top have a special cream cheese inside of them. Messmör is made traditionally in the mountain region of Jämtland (where I went on my Christmas holiday.) It’s made in cast iron pans, and has a hint of vanilla in it. The taste remind me of my childhood. Would you like to try a sandwich with messmör?

My daughter is learning how to cross-country ski. We’ve been skiing both Saturday and Sunday. If you ask her, she knows how to ski now. I am hoping that she will continue to enjoy cross-country skiing (she absolutely hates downhill skiing…) I would love for the two of us to be able to enjoy cross-country skiing together. It’s a wonderful feeling to glide on the snow through the forest, or over a frozen lake. It’s like you are weightless. The silence. The fresh air. The animals you get to see. It’s pure magic, and I so want her to experience that. She doesn’t have any sport that she really likes, I’ve introduced her to many, but none of them stuck. Maybe cross-country skiing could be it?

What have you been up to this weekend? What’s the weather like? I actually had to leave work early on Friday due to a horrible headache. I slept for a few hours, and felt good again. Maybe it’s all the hours of overtime these past two weeks, I don’t know. The weekend have been good. I even got a haircut on Saturday. No photos yet..but there are some changes, including bangs, that I haven’t had in many, many years. I feel comfortable in my new style. I had been thinking about it for almost a year.

I also spent some time writing a report about phenomenology for school. It went OK, at least I believe so. Sometimes it’s hard to tell. For the first time in my life school is a challenge, and I kind of like it! It sure makes things more interesting. I’ve ordered books for the next class, starting in a few weeks, yesterday. Some of them I’ve requested to borrow from to the closest library (they didn’t have all of the books,) and some I’ve purchased online.

Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share. Please visit her blog, and have a look at all the lovely coffee shares. I hope you are enjoying a fabulous weekend!

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. I now reside in the region where I was born: Dalarna, Sweden. I am a mom, a kindergarten teacher, a minimalist and a gardener. Love, Maria

  1. I love your photo and want to see your new look, Maria! I hope your daughter will like cross-country skiing. It’s so fun, I did this years ago on the lake and around my neighborhood. Sunshine and 72F are on tap for Vegas today, a great day for a bike ride! The mask mandate has been dropped in Nevada and other states now which is great. The number of new cases has been falling rapidly, yes!! Are masks still mandated in Sweden?

    1. Thank you John! I sure hope she will enjoy skiing as well 🙂 Masks have never been mandatory here. I can understand that it will be wonderful to not have to wear them anymore. Enjoy your bike ride!

  2. I think getting outside in all seasons is so important, so I hope H takes to cross country skiing. Does she like biking, swimming and hiking in the warmer months? Once my boys learned (and loved) snowboarding, their winter health improved so much!
Your school work sounds engaging… I’m sure you are an ace. 🙂
Have a great week, take care and rest well. ❤

    1. I agree with you Eliza! Getting outside every day, all year round is important. H used to enjoy snowboarding, but not anymore. She does like swimming both indoors and outdoors, and kayaking. She enjoys hiking, if it’s not too warm.
I hope your new week got off to a wonderful start my friend ❤

  3. Good for your gal and the cross-country skiing. I’ve only tried it once and barely recall it. The gang I ran with only did downhill and I never got very good at either. It’s too inconvenient from home to get all the way across California and up to the Donnor Pass region and back. Many do that trip in one day and that means spending most of the day in car, fussing with snow chains on Hwy 80 and so I’ve not done much skiing in a long time.

But about trying a sandwich with messmö – I’m ready now please. They sound wonderful.
    Hope that headache stays away.
    Blessings.

    1. I know all about getting snow chains on Hwy 80…LOL. At first I thought that was a joke, in Sweden everyone have snow tires all winter, and I had never encountered snow chains before my first winter in NorCal.

One messmör sandwich coming right up!

      Have a wonderful week 🙂

  4. What a beautiful winter selfie with the sunbeam lighting up your pretty face, Maria! Glad school is going well and you’re heading toward a new term. I’m with your daughter–I prefer to ski cross country than downhill, but at 62 prefer to snowshoe! Have a wonderful week!

  6. Hi Maria,
Thank you for the wonderful coffee in your sunroom. And yes please! I want to try the cream cheese Messmör as it sounds DELICIOUS!! I hope your daughter enjoys the cross country skiing, I’ve never tried it but I bet I would like it better than down hill skiing which I’ve only done a couple times back in my 20’s. I’m glad you are enjoying school and I can’t wait to see your new haircut. I’ve been considering changing my hair, but am nervous about that too. So much so I just don’t do anything. Haha, maybe you’ll inspire me to get a new cut!! Have a great week ahead! ❤️🤩

  7. Since I am reading this on Monday it seems like the weekend escaped me! I hope your daughter will take to the xcountry skiing too. I love the idea of it although I have not done it. I used to downhill ski when I was a teenager and living in Vancouver BC with mountains nearby. I enjoyed that a lot. This weekend I have watched my coach ride Biasini.I am off riding for a few days as I had a small skin cancer removed from the the bridge of my nose and the surgeon told me I was not to do any strenuous exercise. Riding may not look strenuous but it can be. I want the healing to go well so I am doing what I’ve been told. Biasini will be “speaking” about it all on my blog.

    1. I hope you are OK Anne. Downhill skiing is a lot of fun. I went yesterday, as I do every Tuesday in the winter. It’s a wonderful feeling to get outside in nature. I wish you a speedy recovery.

    1. Thank you so much! How is your garden? Do you get enough rain? Work, school, and the kids have kept me super busy lately, and I haven’t done all the blogging I would have wished for. I so enjoy it when I have a moment. I hope I have lots of garden updates to catch up on with you 🙂 Those are my favourites ❤

      1. We have had an abundance of rain which is great, it is pouring down right now, lol. I have projects going all over the place hence my absence from blogging, which I also miss. It’s funny isn’t it, I find the friendships so precious through blogging. I hopefully will give everyone an update soon. ( ;

  9. Definitely up for a Messmör sandwich and fantastic that you have persevered with the cross country skiing. I can definitely see myself moving to future ski holidays but don’t think I could get my boys into it, not enough excitement for them. Not at the moment anyway.

    1. A messmör sandwich is coming right up! Well, buy daughter enjoyed it when she and I went. Yesterday she went with school and hated it..We will see. I so hope that it can be our thing that we enjoy together. One of the most exhilarating things I know is to ski out on the mountain somewhere without any people, and do some winter camping, and go back the next day. That is freedom! And so much fun. I haven’t done that in several years. I hope your new week is a good one.

  10. I cross country skiied a long time ago and wouldn’t mind trying it again. Here in the southern part of Washington state, it has been really cold and this morning we woke up to some snow. ugghh. I love snow but I also hate it when I need to go to work.
